In Blood Rage, each player commands their own Viking clan, including warriors, leaders, and ships, as Ragnarök descends upon the world. This is the Vikings’ final opportunity to achieve eternal glory and secure their place beside Odin in Valhalla. With the world ending, Vikings have multiple routes to glory—invading and pillaging lands for rewards, engaging in epic battles, completing quests, boosting their clan’s stats, or even meeting a glorious end in battle or from Ragnarök itself.
Strategies in Blood Rage are shaped by the cards drafted at the start of each of the three game rounds (Ages). These “Gods’ Gifts” provide powerful advantages, such as enhancing Viking strength, unlocking battle strategies, upgrading your clan, or summoning legendary creatures from Norse mythology. They also introduce quests, from dominating specific regions to sending many Vikings to Valhalla. Each card is aligned with a Norse god, suggesting its strategic focus: Thor rewards battle victories with extra glory, Heimdall offers foresight and surprise, Tyr boosts combat strength, while Loki’s trickery can either reward losing battles or punish victors.
Players must carefully choose their strategies during the draft phase, but they must also remain flexible and responsive to opponents’ tactics as the action phase progresses. Battles are influenced not only by the strength of the combatants but also by secretly played cards. Observing opponents’ actions and their allegiance to specific gods can help you predict their moves and strategize accordingly. Sometimes, the right card can bring even greater rewards through defeat. In Blood Rage, avoiding battle and the chance for a glorious death is the only surefire way to lose!
